This page will introduce you to our company and gives us a little
individual room for shameless self-promotion.
As valve instrument players, I think we all just want our valves
to go up and down and not really have to worry about them. Bell's
Super Lube agrees with you! We want you to apply our oil and
grease and then completely forget about us and have fun making music
(except of course when your section-mate asks what kind of oil you
like.) We've formulated our products with the help and input of
literally hundreds of trumpet players in the Dallas/Ft Worth area
and across the country.
My name is Jason Levi and I co-founded Bell's
Super Lube with my colleague Justin Bell
back in 2004. Let me tell you a little bit about the humble beginnings
of our venture to create the world's greatest instrument lubricants.
During my senior year of undergraduate work at UNT, I was playing
on a trumpet (that shall remain unidentified) whose valves were
giving me quite a bit of trouble. I tried every brand of oil, chemical
cleanings, polishing, buffing, you-name-it. One day I walked in
the repair shop where Justin was working and asked him to look at
my valves and see if there was anything that could be done before
I had to buy a new horn. He agreed and kept the horn overnight.
I picked it up the next day before lab band rehearsal and my valves
worked effortlessly all rehearsal long with no problems! I was floored!
To my sheer delight, they continued to work the same way well into
the next week. I went back into the repair shop; I had to know what
kind of major surgery he had given my valves. I bombarded Justin
with questions and while I was still ranting he reached behind him
and picked up an old spray-bottle full of blue liquid on the workbench.
"What's this?" I asked. "Oh just something I whipped
up" he said. "Well give me more!" I howled. News
spread quickly about Justin's miracle lube and soon everyone was
stopping in the shop and asking how to get some of it. Let's just
say one of those proverbial 'light bulbs' went off in my head and
I said "hey let's sell this stuff!" and Bell's Super
Lube was born. We bought our first bottles from Sally Beauty
Supply, I whipped up a homemade logo on Photoshop and I printed
the labels on my inkjet printer. We've since sold thousands of bottles
all over the world. Want to try Bell's Super Lube? We're
confident that if you try it, nothing else will ever touch your
valves.
About Jason:
 |
Jason grew up in southwestern Pennsylvania and
started playing trumpet in 4th grade with the help of his father,
Ron (also a trumpet player.) He took up messing with computers
and chasing girls as hobbies but quickly found that he loved
to play the trumpet more than anything. After graduating high
school in 1999, he moved to beautiful, scenic Denton, TX to
attend the University
of North Texas where he earned a BM (cum laude) in jazz
trumpet performance in May 2004. It was then that he realized
that he has no idea what good that degree is other than it was
a whole lot of fun. Thus, he decided to stay and pursue a Masters
Degree, figuring it would be equally as fun (and also he could
at least teach somewhere if he ever had to.) |
His increasing prowess and interest in business practices (and
desire to maintain his lavish lifestyle) prompted him to also start
working on an MBA degree in business, which he will (hopefully)
complete in 2008. He hopes to remember college as the best decade
of his life.
Jason currently plays lead trumpet in the world-renowned,
Grammy Award Nominated One O'clock Lab Band under the direction
of Neil Slater and has played in the band since 2004. He has toured
with the One O'clock band to New York, Chicago, Vancouver, Washington
DC, Pittsburgh, Portland, Warsaw Poland, and Bangkok Thailand. Jason
is a teaching fellow at UNT where he directs and manages the Four
O'clock Lab Band. He has performed or recorded with:
- Nelson Riddle Orchestra
- Wayne Bergeron
- Bill Holman
- Pete Christlieb
- Benny Golson
- Jimmy Heath
- Phil Woods
- Dave Douglas
- Rufus Reid
Jason is available as a guest artist or clinician for your band or
trumpet section, you may contact him here.
About Justin:
 |
Justin Bell was born in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
He received his high school diploma from Broken Arrow High School
where he participated in the Jazz Band, Marching Band, and Wind
Ensemble. Justin also participated in the Northeastern Oklahoma
District Honor Bands and the University of Tulsa Jazz festival,
where he received the outstanding musician award. In 1995, he
marched with the Nite Express Drum and Bugle Corps. Upon graduating
from high school in 1996, Justin moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma,
to attend Oklahoma State University in order to pursue a degree
in music education. While at OSU, he participated in many ensembles
and bands, including the Oklahoma State Wind Ensemble under
the direction of Dr. Joseph P. Missal. Justin also played lead
trumpet with the Oklahoma State Jazz Band, played in the OSU
Marching Band, and also participated in local clubs with the
Peddlers Pack Swing Band. |
During the fall of 1999, Jon Decker, a close friend, encouraged
Justin to pursue his dream of attending the University of North
Texas. He then moved to Denton and enrolled for classes on December,
28th 1999. The University of North Texas proved to be a fertile
ground for music, as well as feeding Justin's insatiable curiosity,
ultimately leading him to enroll in the instrument repair course
taught by Ann Macmillan. Ann created an opportunity for Justin to
take subsequent repair courses and provided employment after he
worked for Brook Mays as an instrument repairman. While attending
the University of North Texas, Justin played in the 9,8,7,6 and
5 O'clock Lab bands, the UNT Green Brigade Marching Band, the Brass
Band, and he played fanfare trumpet at Medieval Times. Upon graduating in the spring of 2005 with a Bachelors of Music
Education, Justin decided to pursue political office. Despite the
many challenges of being a young and unknown candidate, he received
30 percent of the vote and placed second out of the three candidates
that ran for mayor. His many accomplishments include owning and
operating Bell's Dealer Trade Service, Founder of Safer Fundraising,
and working on an innovative Diesel-Electric hybrid design for large
trucks.
Currently, Justin is the Head Director at Muenster ISD where he
is responsible for the instrumental music program. He has created
the Three T System© which focuses on fundamentals as the most
important aspect for the developing musician. This system is based
on the 3DS© model which allows students to visualize the components
of sound emitted by the instrument. While these aspects are important
to teaching band, the drive of his teaching is to instill the formula
for success in his students. This 'success formula' leaves no room
for merely talent, luck, or excuses. If you would like to contact
Justin to clinic your band or give a presentation to your group,
please email: Justin@Bellssuperlube.com
